| Tim's 2007 Mock Draft - Round 1 of 4 - 04/15/07 |

 |
1. |
Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
The Raiders have always had a love for deep speed and the vertical offense. While a QB would make a lot of sense here, Johnson is the safest pick in the draft. They cannot afford a mistake here. |
 |
2. |
Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson
Whether they trade back a pick or two to do it or stay at #2, I think the Lions would like to add a pass rusher like Adams here. Head coach Rod Marinelli, a former D-line coach in Tampa, has seen what a top front can do for a team and probably isn't interested in nursing a rookie QB along. GM Matt Millen is on borrowed time as well and probably wouldn't be around long enough if the team's success were based on a rookie QB. |
 |
3. |
JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
I think the Brownies trade up a spot to make this pick, they love wasting draft picks to move up a little. GM Phil Savage knows Russell well and is probably not too interested in seeing if Charlie Frye might be the answer. Every other team in his division has a franchise-type QB so why not bring in one too? |
 |
4. |
Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
Sure Jon Gruden might be tempted to add yet another QB to his team but sooner or later you need to protect them. Thomas is the player the Bucs may not want but really do need. |
 |
5. |
Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
They would've loved for Thomas to drop here but also have a need for a game breaking back. Edge James is nice but he isn't getting any younger and has never been the big-back type that Ken Whisenhunt has had in the past with the Bus. |
 |
6. |
Leon Hall, CB, Michigan
The 'Skins once had Champ Bailey and traded him away. Top corners are too rare and Joe Gibbs would love to have another after being spoiled years back with Darrell Green. |
 |
7. |
Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame
Many questions are associated with Quinn this year but the Vikes would be thrilled to have him. I can't believe that they really want to go into a season with Taveras Jackson and Brooks Bollinger running the offense. |
 |
8. |
LeRon Landry, S, LSU
The Falcons could land who many believe is the best defensive player on the board at a position of need. You can't ask for much more than that. |
 |
9. |
Levi Brown, OT, Penn St.
New head coach Cam Cameron already has a running back in place and a lot of questions elsewhere on offense. Build the offensive line and the rest will fall into place as he discovered last year as offensive coordinator with the Chargers. |
 |
10. |
Reggie Nelson, DB, Florida
Having their QB in place now the Texans would love to add some help to their offensive line and defensive secondary. Without Brown still available the next best option becomes Nelson. |
 |
11. |
Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska
Bryant Young can't play forever and Carriker looks like a great fit for their 3-4. |
 |
12. |
Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal.
The Bills need a RB and a MLB but there is more depth in this draft at LB. Lynch should be able to step in and start right away. |
 |
13. |
Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville
The Rams would be thrilled if Okoye is still around at this point. He's the kind of guy who turn a defense around. If he gets past the Niners, we would fit great here. |
 |
14. |
Patrick Willis, LB, Mississippi
The Panthers need to replace injury prone Dan Morgan and getting a MLB that can run under 4.4 is a nice way to do it. |
 |
15. |
Jamaal Anderson, DE/OLB Arkansas
The Steelers would be lucky to see Anderson fall this far but things have worked that way before (see: Ben Roethlisberger). Anderson can fit any scheme, 3-4 or 4-3 or something in between. He's the pass rusher the Steelers need and could step in and see considerable time in his rookie season. The Steelers once passed on Jevon Kearse after he fell to draft Troy Edwards, I doubt they can make that mistake twice. |
 |
16. |
Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Ohio St.
The Pack could use some speed on the outside and Ginn's speed and returning ability make him tough to pass up here. |
 |
17. |
Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn St.
LB is a position in need of depth and Pos gives the Jax D plenty of experience coming in. |
 |
18. |
Alan Branch, DT, Michigan
If Branch lasts this long the Bengals shouldn't waste any time in grabbing him. They need help anywhere and everywhere on defense and Branch is a good place to start. |
 |
19. |
Greg Olsen, TE, Miami
Vince Young loved throwing to his TE in college and nothing helps a young QB along better than a quality outlet receiver. |
 |
20. |
Darrelle Revis, CB, Pitt.
The Giants need help in their secondary and would be thrilled if Revis is still around at #20. |
 |
21. |
Jon Beason, LB, Miami
With the release of Al Wilson, the Broncos could use some help at the LB position. |
 |
22. |
Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU
Bowe is a big physical receiver that will be able to step in when T.O. has his inevitable blowup in the near future. Besides that, both Cowboys starters are members of the 30+ club. |
 |
23. |
Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee
The Chiefs need someone besides Tony Gonzalez to throw to. |
 |
24. |
Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas
The Patriots finally add some talent to their iffy secondary with the fastest CB out there. |
 |
25. |
Michael Griffin, S, Texas
The Jets still have some holes to fill but can't ignore the impact that playmaking safeties have had on all of the recent Super Bowl champions. |
 |
26. |
Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee
After just dealing Darwin Walker, the Eagles have a hole to fill. |
 |
27. |
Aaron Ross, DB, Texas
Very versatile player will find a way to add to defense and special teams. |
 |
28. |
Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan
Too good at too important of a position for Bill Belichick to pass up. |
 |
29. |
Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn
The best guard in the draft for a team that will need to rebuild their O-line in this season and the next. |
 |
30. |
Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC
The Chargers need some help on the outside and Jarrett's lack of speed won't matter as much in Norv Turner's offense. |
 |
31. |
Lawrence Timmons, LB, Florida St.
Some protection for a possible holdout/loss of Lance Briggs. |
 |
32. |
Brian Leonard, RB, Rutgers
RB/FB hybrid with great hands would give the Colts' offense new looks and a big back to compliment last year's #1, Joseph Addai. |
