 |
1. |
Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech
Too much talent to pass up here. Add to that he has character Randy Moss could only dream of. Sure the Raiders need a QB but they're not totally sure Andrew Walter isn't still a possibility. They just need to give him the time and the tools. Johnson helps a lot in the tools department. |
 |
2. |
Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson
Look for the Lions to try and move down and still draft Adams. My bet is the Browns throw them a pick to move up one spot, they've done it before (see: Kellen Winslow). |
 |
3. |
JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
I think the Browns will pay the price to move up to grab Russell, GM Phil Savage's relationship with him over the years will help their decision. That and they had better get a big QB to withstand the punishment that the AFC North normally delivers. |
 |
4. |
Amobi Okoye DT Louisville
The Super Bowl Bucs team was built on defense, especially at DT. Okoye gives them a young, active tackle to rebuild their D around. |
 |
5. |
Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin
New head coach Ken Whisenhunt will be a happy man if Thomas is still around at 5. His O-line is not a strength to say the least and any improvement will help prolong the career of Edge James and give Matt Leinart a fighting chance. |
 |
6. |
Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas
I'm betting this pick will be dealt to someone looking to add Brady Quinn to their roster. If the Skins stay, they'd better make it count, they won't be drafting again until Sunday. |
 |
7. |
Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame
It's said that HC Brad Childress likes Tarvaris Jackson but I can't believe that he could pass up Quinn here. It's just too important of a position to risk a whole season with. If Quinn is gone (I think he will be, see above) look for the safety Landry here. |
 |
8. |
LeRon Landry, S, LSU
The Falcons get what many feel is the surest defensive pick of the draft at a position of need. Not a bad start. |
 |
9. |
Darrelle Revis CB Pitt
I'm thinking they move up and take Quinn but if not Revis would make sense. Some would be surprised that he would be ahead of Leon Hall but game film doesn't lie and Hall was torched by a receiver (Dwayne Jarrett) running a 4.6. |
 |
10. |
Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma
Health concerns and pure luck push Peterson to the 10 spot. Other teams just had greater needs and now the Texans can fix last year's mistake. |
 |
11. |
Adam Carriker DE Nebraska
The Niners' 3-4 needs a strong DE to hold down their line. Carriker is perfect for what they are doing. |
 |
12. |
Leon Hall CB Michigan
With the loss of Nate Clements in free agency and an iffy performance last season by Terrence McGee, the Bills could sure use some help on the corner. |
 |
13. |
Patrick Willis LB Mississippi
The Rams' run defense could use some help here. Alan Branch is a possibility here but concerns with his health push him down. |
 |
14. |
Levi Brown OT Penn St.
The Panthers may have greater needs but getting Brown here is too good to pass up. He could team with Jordan Gross to potentially give the Panthers one of the best sets of OTs in the league. |
 |
15. |
Anthony Spencer DE/OLB Purdue
I've been going round and round on this one for a while. The names of Joe Staley and Paul Posluszny could very easily be here as well. Spencer to me is the choice because he fills the greatest need the Steelers have at the moment (pass rusher) and the Steelers have always liked to fill holes in the first round. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see them move down if someone has got to have Marshawn Lynch. |
 |
16. |
Marshawn Lynch RB California
With very little depth behind the now departed (through free agency) Ahman Green, the Pack have the chance to add a complete back who could start right away. |
 |
17. |
Reggie Nelson S Florida
Not a lot of talent at the safety spot in Jacksonville. Nelson should be able to fit right in. |
 |
18. |
Alan Branch DT Michigan
The Bengals know how important it is to have a big man inside to stop the rush after playing against Pittsburgh and Baltimore two times each every year. |
 |
19. |
Robert Meachem WR Tennessee
The Titans don't have to look too far to find the man to fill their greatest need. It also doesn't make much sense to build your team around a young QB without giving him someone to throw to. He can't run forever. |
 |
20. |
Joe Staley OT Central Michigan
The Giants can breathe a sigh of relief if they can find Staley here. He'll be able to fill their monstrous hole at the LT position. |
 |
21. |
Paul Posluszny LB Penn St.
With Al Wilson now a name from the past, the Broncos can step right up and add a player that should be a good fit for them for another decade. |
 |
22. |
Dwayne Bowe WR LSU
The last time the Cowboys used a first round pick on offense they chose a pass catcher from LSU, TE David LaFleur. They hope to do better this time. |
 |
23. |
Ben Grubbs OG Auburn
The Chiefs' O-line continues to be a worry now with the retirement of Will Shields. Grubbs should be able to fill that spot immediately. |
 |
24. |
Michael Griffin S Texas
The Patriots don't have much left at safety but could turn a negative into a plus with one pick. |
 |
25. |
Jarvis Moss DE/OLB Florida
The Jets have a few needs but a pass rush would have to rate as their primary. |
 |
26. |
Brandon Meriweather S Miami (FL)
The Eagles are getting older in the secondary and Meriweather can play both safety and corner. |
 |
27. |
Aaron Ross CB Texas
With their offense taken care of, the Saints will be looking to add some help on the other side of the ball. |
 |
28. |
David Harris LB Michigan
The Pats' inside backers will be looking to draw pension checks pretty soon. |
 |
29. |
Justin Blalock OL Texas
Could be the answer for the Ravens at one of many positions on their OL. |
 |
30. |
Ted Ginn Jr. WR Ohio St.
Concerns over his health and his skills as a receiver push Ginn towards the bottom of round 1. |
 |
31. |
Greg Olsen TE Miami (FL)
The Bears could use more help for Rex Grossman. I'm just not so sure it will help though. |
 |
32. |
Jon Beason LB Miami (FL)
A perfect replacement and fit for Cato June |
